Museum and Attraction Passes

Check Out IPO (check out at Messenger)

We are excited to participate in the Check Out IPO Library Partner Program!  Use your Messenger Library card to "check out" a FREE Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) concert this season! Here's how it works:

• Present your MPL library card in person to staff at the Library's Adult Services desk to receive your pass.
• Each pass is valid for two tickets (student and/or adult).
• IPO requests that a patron household reserve a pass not more than twice per season. 
• The pass must be presented at the box office window on concert night to claim tickets.
• Box office opens 90 minutes before concert time.

Museum Adventure Pass (check out at Messenger)

Valid Messenger Library cardholders can receive free or discounted admission and other other discounts to a variety of exciting museums and recreational facilities in the Chicago area. 

Visit the library’s Adult or Youth Services desks to pick up a pass for the museum of your choice.

Passes available on a first come, first served basis; holds may not be placed on the passes. There are a limited number of passes for each museum. Each museum's page specifies dates when passes cannot be used and other restrictions that may apply. Library staff can assist you with selecting a museum by explaining the details for each pass, or you can see them on the Museum Adventure Pass website.

Each pass is valid for 7 days from the date of issue. The Library can issue one museum pass per family, per loan period. Each pass is only valid for one use.

When you visit your museum of choice, make sure you have with you the library card used to get the pass and a photo ID. Passes will be collected by the museum.

What is Explore More Illinois?

Explore More Illinois is a free service provided by your library that provides instant online access to free and discounted tickets to museums, science centers, sporting events, zoos, park districts, theatres, and other fun and local cultural venues.

How do I get a pass?

Log in with your library card credentials and browse for passes by date or attractions. If you do not know your PIN or password, or if you have problems logging into Explore More Illinois, please contact User Services at 630-896-0240. Make your reservation and print or download your pass shortly before your visit. You can have three active reservations per library card. Please cancel your reservation(s) if unable to attend, otherwise the reservation will count as being used. Remember that once you print or download your pass you cannot cancel your reservation.
